We depart Auckland at 6.45am traveling south towards the Waikato region. We stop for a break in Huntly, where the main attraction is the Power Station (no, we don't visit the Station). Next we head for the most visited city in New Zealand: Rotorua.
Our first stop will be at the ZORB, where you can take pictures or even try it!
Once in Rotorua, area of high geothermal activity, we visit Lake Rotorua, Government Gardens and the Jade Factory.
The Maori Village Te Whakarewarewa with its mud pools and geysers comes next! In "Whaka" we will learn a bit about the Maori culture: Its dance; their way of living; etc. After the Maori show there will be a tour in the village.
We now go for a two-hour drive to the Waitomo region to visit the Kiwi Kiwi House in Otorohanga.
After visiting Otorohanga Kiwi House we go for a 40 min guided tour in the Glowworm Caves where the highlight is the boat trip to witness thousands of tiny glowworms.
The picture you see above is taken when you are leaving the Caves. Inside is dark and we can not take pictures, so we can see the spectacle that the glowworms have to offer!
After the caves is time to head back to Auckland where we arrive at 7.30 pm approximately.
We do recommend the Waitomo Caves, but you also have the option to
tour Rotorua only
